I’m excited to release the AMAZON HOT WAX video in advance of the KOOL KRYS FEMINUM album today!!!

10 years after Kool Krys’ first album The Return of Diana Prince, my fourth album FEMINUM highlights Wonder Woman’s 75 year legacy in pop culture, comics and longevity, inspiring the next generation of girls.

This project is a tribute to female empowerment and Wonder Woman, aligning with the June 2nd release of the Wonder Woman movie in theatres — the first major studio film featuring a female superhero, directed by female director Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot. Major shout out to Lynda Carter!

Thank you to the dynamic, talented and inspiring women who participated in the AMAZON HOT WAX video (directed and produced by Toni van Eeden). Ottawa has amazing women in hip hop celebrating and elevating culture with creative entrepreneurs who support and connect us with bigger ideas and opportunities to grow.

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT: Toni van Eeden, Manal Nemr (Beautiful Happy Reasons), Caroline “Chico” Cichelly (Chico’s Hip Hop Brunch), Dominique “Mique Michelle” Boisvenue, Galyn “Nilla” Esme, Julia Gutsik (luv2groove), Izabella Bandojo Grant and Véronique Labrosse + The Flava Factory!

Thanks to the leaders in our community who advance women and girls in business, arts and innovative projects (as seen at Tech Wall!) Katie Miller (Impact HUB Ottawa), Cat Laska, Heather Ward, Rhiana Chinapen, Corinne Blouin-Hudon, Eve Blouin-Hudon, Alexandra Staff and Carly Marie.

Bix and I look forward to celebrating the launch of the FEMINUM album with you at Kinki in two weeks on Friday, May 26.

“Behind every successful woman is inspiration from other successful women,” says Christina Devine. “My passion is connecting female artists, entrepreneurs and businesses with each other to amplify opportunities for career and personal development.”

Born and raised in Ottawa, Kool Krys (Christina Devine) moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2003 to pursue her Bachelor’s in Sociology and Contemporary Studies at the University of King’s College. While in Halifax, she established herself as a prominent member of the local hip hop scene. As a youth mentor with the Girls Empowerment Mentoring Program (GEM), dance instructor and radio co-host of the show Wax Museum on Dalhousie University’s CKDU 88.1 FM, Kool Krys demonstrated her commitment early on as a positive role model for young women.

Kool Krys has since been featured on national radio and TV programs, including CBC Radio’s Bandwidth, Ottawa Morning and All in a Day, college radio, international music blogs and The Polish Review on Rogers Television.

Kool Krys performed on CBC Radio One’s All In a Day with Alan Neal during CBC Ottawa’s Share Central 2011 Holiday Fundraiser, which raised over $25K in support of Operation Come Home. In 2012, Kool Krys and Bix toured with Buck 65 on his 20 Odd Years Tour across Canadian cities, performing at sold-out concerts. Kool Krys and Bix also performed in the 2012 JUNOFest rap showcase in Ottawa at Babylon Nightclub.

While living in Toronto for a few years and contributing to local music blogs, Kool Krys mentored teenage girls by teaching songwriting with Girls Rock Camp Mississauga, which provides a positive environment designed to nurture self-esteem and self-expression in girls.

In 2015, Kool Krys performed at Ottawa’s House of PainT Festival of Arts & Culture and Montreal’s Under Pressure Graffiti Festival in 2016. Christina currently works as a publicist in the local arts community supporting communications and community engagement for House of PainT’s annual festival that draws 10,000 attendees each year and features more than 200 national artists at Dunbar Bridge near Carleton University, celebrating and elevating urban art and expression in our nation’s capital.
