Canada Loves Dilla Tour – March 9-26

For Immediate Release

Canada Loves Dilla Tour
March 9-26, 2017

Ottawa, ON – J Dilla (James Dewitt Yancey) is one of hip hop’s greatest producers and musicians of all time. His music and production for artists including Janet Jackson, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Busta Rhymes continues to resonate in cities across Canada.

To recognize Dilla’s hard-hitting instrumentals and exceptional contribution to hip hop culture, local hip hop communities across Canada will celebrate his life and legacy from March 9-26 with a series of local shows featuring a lineup of Detroit artists and performers who have been influenced by Dilla’s impactful music — some with a direct connection to Dilla as family members and friends. A portion of the profits from the Canada Loves Dilla Tour shows will be donated to the J Dilla Foundation.

Canada Loves Dilla Tour Artists/Performers:

Illa J (DT/MTL): John Derek Yancey is the younger brother of the late legendary hip hop producer and rapper J Dilla from Detroit. Illa J is a rapper, singer, producer and songwriter who has released two albums on Delicious Vinyl Records: Yancey Boys (2008) and Illa J (2015). He is also former member of hip hop group Slum Village, in which J Dilla was an early member.

DJ Rhettmatic of The World Famous Beat Junkies (LA): Nazareth Nirza is a producer, DJ, member and part creator of Southern California’s first turntable band, the Beat Junkies.

Dankery Harv (DT): Derrick Harvey of the hip hop group Frank n Dank from Detroit. Dankery Harv and Frank (Frank Bush) are known for their many collaborations with the late J Dilla. Dankery was present throughout Dilla’s creative process when Dilla produced music for the likes of Pharcyde, Erykah Badu and Common and many other successful hip hop and R&B artists.

DJ Spinna (NYC): An anomaly in music and humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields, with a steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (Funk, Soul R&B and Jazz), foundation (Hip-Hop) and future (Electronic/Dance music) without any restraints.

DJ Soko (NYC): Eric Reynaert, DJ from Detroit, Michigan and currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. He is signed to Mello Music Group, and is one-third of the hip-hop group The Left, along with fellow Detroit artists Apollo Brown and Journalist 103.
