Kool Krys & Bix: #HoP2015

Although I was born in Canada, I have MUCH respect for my Polish hip hop roots!

Founder of ZIP Skład (Ziomki I Przyjaciele) and WWO (W Witrynach Odbicia, W Wyjątkowych Okolicznościach), Sokół has contributed to the poppin’ hip hop culture that exists in Poland today.

Kool Krys interviews Pastel Supernova

I have recently been contributing to She Does The City as a hip hop and arts writer. I was personally invited to the Love Letters Cabaret at Lula Lounge and saw it as a great opportunity for SDTC…

SDTC gets seduced by Love Letters Cabaret “The Bacchanal” and interviews Pastel Supernova about “Care Bear Stares from Naughty Bits”

She Does the City recently had the pleasure of attending the ultra-sexy Love Letters Cabaret “The Bacchanal” at Lula Lounge presented by Pastel Supernova Enterprises.

As soon as I arrived, I was entranced by characters from The Bacchanal ensemble, who mingled and flirted with guests. Paying homage to Bacchus/Dionysus – the Greek God of wine, theatre, and revelry – the stunning cast of talented dancers and musicians relived the riotous festivity of the ancient, mythical Bacchanal through sensual dancing, live singing, and nostalgic instrumental interludes in fabulous burlesque getups.

Who is the powerhouse behind Pastel Supernova Enterprises’ Love Letters Cabaret?

Recognized by Flare Magazine as one of Canada’s 30 most influential women, Pastel fills various roles, including dancer, model, choreographer, and actress. Classically trained in ballet and modern dance, Pastel entered the commercial entertainment industry by touring international stages with Nelly Furtado.

Pastel’s love for pin-ups inspired her to launch Pastel Supernova Enterprises, promoting and producing artistic projects created for lovers of the “ultra-feminine.” Through her company, Pastel provides consultations on style and poise, including Heels@Home – a lesson in confidence through what she calls “the art of walking in high heels.”

I had the opportunity to chat with Pastel to learn about the meaning behind her work and the Love Letters Cabaret…

Kool Krys interviews Michie Mee

As a She Does the City contributor, I had the opportunity to meet Canada’s Hip Hop Queen at Manifesto 2012. Here is an excerpt from my interview with Michie with a link below to the full interview on SDTC.

Michie Mee, “Canada’s Hip Hop Queen,” Inspires the Future of Women in Music

Michie Mee (Michelle McCullock), also known as “Canada’s Hip Hop Queen,” is a multi-JUNO-nominated hip hop artist, actress, and dedicated mother. The first Canadian rap artist in history to sign with a major record label in the US (First Priority/Atlantic Records) in 1988, she continues to be an inspiration to musicians across the nation.

Music lovers know Michie for her distinct rap style, combining reggae & dancehall with hip hop. Throughout her career, Michie has demonstrated her skills as a versatile musician, performing with notable artists including Will Smith, Salt-N-Pepa and LL Cool J, and touring with Queen Latifah, Sinead O’Connor, and hip hop power group Public Enemy.

Beyond her musical talents, Michie is also co-host of Canada’s legendary rap radio show, “The Power Move Show,” on CKLN Radio in Toronto, and a personality who has appeared in various programs and films, including “La Femme Nikita” (CTV), “Soul Food”, and “In Too Deep” with Omar Epps.

Outside of her career achievements, Michie is a mother advocating the importance of education. She continually contributes to youth development and is often invited to host events due to her vibrant persona. One such recent event was the sixth annual Toronto Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture,
where She Does The City had the opportunity to chat with Michie about the future of women in hip hop.
